Our tour is designed to sample Morocco's 6,000 years of archaeology, art and architecture. We will explore the great Roman city of Volubilis and the fascinating Islamic imperial cities of Rabat, Meknes, Fez and Marrakesh, where architectural treasures are hidden within their colorful medinas. We then travel into the snowcapped Atlas Mountains, stopping to study Berber villages and unique fortified villages and to the remote kasbahs and ksour of the Sahara Desert. A special tour highlight will be the day spent at the excavations at Sijilmasa.

Ancient Treasures of Sudan
This unusual tour explores ancient Nubia and the Sudan, revealed by visits to such storied sites as Kerma, home to a powerful Bronze Age kingdom, whose merchants traded with the Minoans; the Kushite holy mountain at Gebel Barkal; the Nubian royal city of Meroe abounding in pyramids more plentiful than those in Egypt; and the sites of Sesibi, Soleb, and Tombos, erected during the time of Egypt's Akhenaten and Tutankhamun. We will gain an appreciation of Nubian art by visits to several museums while our visits to traditional villages will introduce us to Sudanese culture. The Sudan is rugged, and hence, unspoiled so the three nights spent in our tented camp permits us to empathize with intrepid 18th century explorers who appreciated the natural splendor of Nubia.
